Industry Research and Statistics–Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the SEMI® Book-to-Bill report?
The SEMI Book-to-Bill report is calculated by taking a three-month moving average of North American headquartered equipment manufacturers bookings divided by a three-month average of billings for the same period of time. North American equipment suppliers represent approximately 50 percent of the worldwide equipment market. A book-to-bill above one represents an expanding market while a book-to-bill below one represents a contracting market.
2. Where can I find the Book-to-Bill report release dates?
The semiconductor equipment monthly Book-to-Bill ratio is released by SEMI at 3 PM PST on the following dates.
3. Does SEMI have historical Book-to-Bill data or historical semiconductor equipment market information?
Yes, SEMI does have historical Book-to-Bill Report and Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics reports available. If you are interested in purchasing historic information please go to the following link where you can see a listing of the historical reports.
To place an order, enter the proper information for the report you are seeking. All orders are received the following evening by SEMI and you should receive the information file by the following business day.
4. Does SEMI collect market statistics on semiconductor equipment sold into China?

SEMI uses a third party accounting firm, David Powell, Inc., to manage market statistics data collection. We continue to evaluate the security of the program.
10. Who will have access to my company’s data?
Individual company data is not available to any agency or company, including SEMI. David Powell, Inc. assigns each participating company a code number that is issued on all correspondences. Company names do not appear with data, and all data is submitted to David Powell, Inc. Confidentiality is guaranteed, and market share information for program participants is never published.
